Are Balloons Eco-Friendly?

When you purchase one of our DIY Balloon Garlands you might think that once it served its purpose everything will just go to the trash and contribute to pollution. However the balloons we use are made 100% from latex and that means that our balloons are 100% biodegradable. You just need to follow a few tips and this beautiful decoration will be eco-friendly.

There are two thing we recommend:

You can compost the balloons: Remove the fishing line (that one will go in the trash) pop all the balloons and make sure you have all the pieces!. If your balloon garland had double stuffed balloons separate them and then put all of them in a compost mix. You can create your own with this recipe:

  • Brown Materials (3/5 of the mix) brown dry leaves, dried grass (Or you can use the used plates, cutlery and napkins from our Woodland Party Kit)

  • Green Materials (1/5 of the mix) fresh grass clippings, fruit and vegetable peels, coffee grounds, weeds, green leaves.

  • Balloons (1/5 of the mix)

You can reuse the balloons: just cut the balloon close to the knot, fill a new balloon with water, rice, flour... and start covering it with the smaller balloons and then the 11" balloons. You´ll eventually have a fun balloon stress ball! Soon we´ll show you how yo can do this step by step.

One more thing to consider: even though our balloon garlands are intended to use with air sometimes when balloons are filled with helium people release them. Don't do this! there´s no way to control what happens to them and once they pop they can and end up anywhere becoming a threat to wildlife that might think they are food :(

But if you follow our tips our balloon garlands can be a gorgeous and eco-friendly way to take any event to the next level!
